For those who fine art and are running out of wall space may find that fine jewelry is art that can be as exciting as any other medium. Tidemark Gallery is introducing its newest member Donna Roggenthien who, with her husband Ron, lives in Friendship and Portland, with stops in Waldoboro.
The former restaurateur and landscape design artist finds inspiration for her pieces from her many years with her hands literally in the elemental gifts of the earth. Local stones, pebbles and ancient fossils from Michigan lakes and rugged Maine shorelines are recurrent “found” objects in her work. Creating a bond between those objects and fire-forged metals, often featuring wrought silver, are key to her organic vision of wearable art.
Works by Roggenthien and many other member and guest artists may be seen Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the downtown Tidemark Gallery, 902 Main St./Route 220. For more information, call 832-5109 or visit tidemarkgallery.com.
