More than 100 farms will participate in Maine’s 22nd annual Open Farm Day on Sunday, July 24.
Open Farm Day is a chance to go on a hayride and a woods tour; pet farm animals and pick berries; learn the latest about renewable energy, keeping bees and breeding alpacas; and sample farm products, including locally produced lamb sausage, herb teas and wines.
Visiting hours at most farms are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., but some farms have extended hours.
Local participating farms include:
• Agricola Farm (diversified sustainable) Medomak Valley High School Heirloom Seed Project, spinning demos, farmstand. Located at Route 17 and Clarry Hill Road in Union. Extended hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Beau Chemin (organic preservation farm) Traditional wool processing, self-guided walk, organic U-pick raspberries. Located at 1749 Finntown Road, Waldoboro.
• Black Locust Farm (cashmere goats) goats, Norwegian fjord horses, peacocks. Located at 15 Old County Road, Washington.
• Brae Maple Farm (diversified organic) Knox-Lincoln Beekeepers Display, Master Gardener talks. Located at 233 North Union Road, Union.
• Cloud Hollow Farm (alpaca breeders, bamboo, sustainable) Solar and wind-powered farm, alpacas. Located at 559 Friendship Road, Waldoboro.
• County Fair Farm (apples, farm stand, sweet corn) Wagon rides, corn maze, farm-raised meat. Located on Route 32 between Route 17 and Route 126, Jefferson. Extended hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Glendarrah Farm (French and English lavender) Tour of the fields. 151 Searsmont Road, Appleton. Extended hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Guini Ridge Farm (sheep and family farm; handicapped accessible) lamb sausage, yarn. Located at 1353 North Union Road, Union.
• Hidden Valley Nature Center (sustainable forestry and environmental education) 1 p.m. guided tour, FSC Woods, timber frame building school. Located at 131 Egypt Road, Jefferson.
• Savage Oakes Vineyard & Winery (diversified livestock/vineyard and winery) Winery and vineyard tour, free samples. Located at 174 Barrett Hill Road, Union. Extended hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Seabreeze Farm (diversified livestock) Spinning demos, old tools, chickens, geese, ducks, goats. Located at 414 Cushing Road, Friendship. Extended hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Shepherds and Such Homesteading Farm (diversified) Candle-dipping, weaving, Zen garden, mushroom garden, dry-stacked forge. Located at 2448 Winslow Mills Road, Waldoboro.
• Spruce Mountain Blueberries, Tour fields and kitchen, samples, U-pick. Located at 315 Mt. Pleasant St., West Rockport.
• Sweetgrass Farm Winery & Distillery (handicapped accessible) Trails and views, picnic with Romney Sheep. Located at 347 Carroll Road, Union. Extended hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
