Jazz at the Strand

Louisiana Repertory Jazz Ensemble offers authentic New Orleans style jazz performed by musicians who are experts in the genre.  Ticketholders are invited to attend Music & Art: An Exchange featuring Bay Chamber artistic director Thomas Wolf and Farnsworth Art Museum chief curator Michael Komanecky.  This preconcert talk will take place at 7 p.m. at the Farnsworth Art Museum library. The topic, The Forging of an American Identity, will be explored with Fred Starr, founder and musician with the LRJE, looking at America’s unique voice in music and art as it emerged in the early years of the 20th century. Seating is limited; pre-registration is recommended by 4 p.m. day of show. There will be a post-concert reception with the artists immediately following the concert with the location announced from the stage.

Latitude 41

Violinist Livia Sohn, pianist Bernadene Blaha and cellist Luigi Piovano are musicians who hail from different parts of the world, but all located on the same global latitude. As Latitude 41, they will perform works from the great Russian tradition as well as a delightful Schubert trio in a concert sponsored by RAYR the wine shop. Ticketholders are invited to attend a free pre-concert talk featuring the musicians and Wolf. Thursday night pre-concert talks, held each week as part of the Summer Music Festival series, take place at 7 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room of the opera house.
