Applications are open for the 2011 Maine Wild Blueberry Queen. The last day applications will be accepted is Aug. 5.

The 2011 Maine Wild Blueberry Queen will receive a $1,500 cash award. The Crown Princess will get $500, and Miss Congeniality will receive $200.

Applicants must be single; a Maine resident between the ages of 17 and 22 years; and a high school graduate. The Maine Wild Blueberry Queen must be available for appearances during her year of reign. Applicants must not hold or vie for another title during the application process. A sponsorship fee of $300 is required from a Maine grower or processor of wild blueberries. Multiple sponsors is possible and encouraged.

The Maine Wild Blueberry Festival is a three-day event, Aug. 19-21, during the week of Union Fair (Aug. 20-27). The introductory county fair picnic will be held the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 19, with the next two days filled with events designed to promote the wild blueberry industry and the Maine Wild Blueberry Festival at Union Fair. A panel of judges will evaluate each individual in three categories: written essay, oral presentation and individual interview.
