Come Boating!, Belfast’s community boating program, will host its 11th annual Rowing Regatta on Saturday, Aug. 20 in Belfast Harbor. There will be races for adults and youth, with awards given in various classes. Any type of rowed or paddled craft may participate.

The regatta will include a long course of approximately three nautical miles and several short courses. Come Boating!’s 32-foot Cornish Gigs, Belle Fast and Selkie, will compete against gigs from other New England rowing organizations. Ocean shells, rowed skiffs, kayaks, canoes, and other small craft are encouraged to participate in races in their class.

Registration for the regatta will be held at 10 a.m. at Come Boating!’s tent, which will be set up near the Boat House at Steamboat Public Landing. The long-course races will begin at 11 a.m., followed by junior races and short courses. Awards will be presented at the conclusion of the day’s races.

Registration fees, which include a potluck meal donated by Come Boating! members, are $20 for adults and $5 for juniors (ages 13 to 18). All youth participants must wear life jackets.

The day will feature friendly competition, enjoyable viewing for spectators, and opportunities to learn about Come Boating!’s activities, which include regular community rows, competitive rowing, and community sailing, and private sailing lessons.
