The Ocean House Hotel overlooking the harbor will launch the re-opening of the Ocean House Gallery with a 5 to 7 p.m. reception Friday, July 15 featuring watercolors by Bradley Hendershot.

“Allure of the Sea” will mark Hendershot’s first exhibition in Maine since 2008. A native of Pennsylvania, he is known primarily in Maine for his representations of rugged shorelines, weathered fish shacks and homes and quintessential lighthouses. When he first came to Maine he was drawn to Monhegan Island, but eventually he expanded his artistic vision to the Midcoast. Drawing and painting from an early age, Hendershot attributes much of his success to his artist father, Ray Hendershot, who gave him inspiration and guidance.

Hendershot is a signature artist of the American Society of Marine Painters and a signature artist of the International Society of Marine Painters. He also is a signature member of both the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society and the Philadelphia Water Color Society.

“Allure of the Sea” will continue through July 27; the gallery is open whenever the door is open. For more information, please contact Kristina Mitchell at 372-6691 or visit oceanhousehotel.com.

Upcoming shows at the Ocean House Gallery are: July 29 through Aug. 10, Alice Boynton; Aug. 12 through 24, Susan Gilbert Lord; Aug. 26 through Aug. 31, Angela Anderson Pomerleau; Sept. 2 through 14, Sylvia Murdock; and Sept. 16 through 29, Jan Lipson.
