The Union Area Chamber of Commerce will host its “now famous” Pie Social on Friday, July 15 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the Union Common.

Come for dinner and enjoy hamburgers and hot dogs with cold beverages then complete the meal with dessert from the chamber’s broad selection of homemade, mouth-watering pies made and donated by local bakers.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Paddy Mills, whose singing and guitar playing has been described as a combination of rural-contemporary-folk-groove.

In addition, the chamber of commerce will hold a free drawing for two brand-new bicycles during the Pie Social. The winners of the drawings — the lucky boy and lucky girl — will take home a new bicycle. They must be present to win.

The net income from this event goes to support the Union Area Chamber of Commerce’s Scholarship & Grant Fund. The fund assists students in the chamber’s service area consisting of Appleton, Hope, Union, Waldoboro, Warren and Washington. It is available for any elementary, junior high, high school or non-traditional student that lives within the service area to pursue education or projects that relate to business, entrepreneurship, or leadership.

Scholarships of up to $250 may be awarded, with a maximum to be determined annually based on the funds available. Awards will be given based on merit and/or need. Complete details on the application process are available on the chamber website, unionareachamber.org.
