Blues of all ilks at Rock City

On Friday, July 15, Rock City’s Velvet Lounge series will present Blind Albert & Friends’ eight annual blues jam. The blues festival weekend kickoff will run from 7 to 10 p.m. at Rock City Books & Coffee, 328 Main St.

On Saturday morning, July 16, Rock City will welcome back Blue Gene: in accordance with all of Rock City’s blues festival traditions, Gene Behrenshouser will be playing music for customers before the North Atlantic Blues Festival begins so the music will run from 9 to 11 a.m.

On Saturday night, the Velvet Lounge will welcomes back Jim James and Dan Wilson from 7 to 9 p.m. With James on 12- and 6-string guitars, harmonica and vocals; and Wilson on bass, this Belfast- based duo serves up a distinctive blend of acoustic blues, folk and original material  that defies convention and delights audiences.

As usual, there is no cover charge; however, tipping the musicians is highly encouraged. For more information, call 594-4123.
