Chuck Paine, one of the world’s most famous yacht designers, will present his new book “My Yacht Designs” Wednesday, July 13 at 7 p.m. at Thomaston Public Library. The free program, the second in this year’s Friends of the Library series Artists & Authors Among Us, will take place in Room 208 of the Thomaston Academy building, 60 Main St./Route 1.

Paine spent his earliest years on the island of Jamestown, R.I., and graduated from Brown University in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He worked for designer Dick Carter from 1971 through 1973, then ran C.W. Paine Yacht Design, Inc. for 35 years until 2008.

Paine specialized in the high-end of the market designs including custom yachts, both sail and power, and semi-production yachts. Well more than 1000 individual yachts have been built to date to Paine’s designs. His production and custom designs have been built by local companies such as Morris Yachts, Lyman Morse and French and Webb.

Since retiring from designing in 2008, Paine has remained active in the boating field as a lecturer on the subject of design. His website, chuckpaine.com, may be the most popular yacht design website in the English-speaking language with more than 1 million hits every year.
