A traditional shape note singing session will take place Monday, July 11 in the First Church Fellowship Hall from 7 to 9 p.m. First Church is between Court and Church streets; the hall entrance is on Spring Street.
This is energetic four-part unaccompanied community singing dating from Colonial New England. Also known as Sacred Harp singing, it is open to all at no cost, and newcomers are most welcome. Books are available for loan and purchase. This month’s singing will be a good time to warm up for the Maine Singing Friday and Saturday, July 29 and 30 in Union.
