Rockland and Rockport fire crews were at the scene at 2 a.m. Monday, June 27 of a fire at a large barn on Lake Avenue.
Smoke was visible from the eves of the two-story barn at 53 Lake Ave.
According to Assistant Rockland Fire Chief Adam Miceli, there was a malfunction in a chimney connection to a pottery kiln in the barn.
The fire was under control and damage appeared to be minimal. He said roof boards around the chimney were burned and there was some moderate water damage but said total damage was likely about $1,000.
The property is owned by Richard and Susan Johnson, according to the city tax website. The home is adjacent to the 1,200-square-foot barn.
Rockport automatically responds to fires in this section of Rockland.
Rockland police had Lake Avenue blocked off at Old County Road.
Fire crews were there for about 90 minutes.
