The Maine Conservation Corps recently welcomed Zachary Monroe of South Thomaston and Vanessa Novicka of Rockland.

Monroe is the son of Angela and Robert Monroe, also of South Thomaston, and Novicka is the daughter of Amy Robinson of Rockland and Linwood Shields of Warren.

The MCC conducts conservation projects throughout the state of Maine, including extensive recreational trail construction and rehabilitation.

Monroe and Novicka both graduated from local high schools in 2010, Monroe from Camden Hills Regional High School in Rockport and Novicka from Georges Valley High School in Thomaston. Monroe currently attends Unity College where he is studying parks and recreation and Novicka currently attends the University of Southern Maine where she is studying communications.

This season they will both serve on a crew of three to seven members and undertake several trails projects across the state of Maine. More information about the Maine Conservation Corps can be found at maine.gov/doc/parks/mcc.
