Well, we can tell you at least one person who wasn’t surprised that we had to postpone the canine and car wash on Saturday because of the—um, bad weather (we’d like to use a stronger term but we are a family newspaper). That would be us, whose forecasts usually pan out sooner or later. Anyway, we’ve rescheduled the event for this Saturday, June 25: same time, 9 a.m. to noon, and place, Key Bank lot at the Hannaford’s shopping center. Be there or be squared. (That doesn’t sound quite right.) Don’t forget that our washers are very experienced adults who do a great job on cars, a good skill to have in this uncertain economy, and our dog washers sans pareil. All proceeds benefit CRARL. Thanks for giving us your business!

We have a very special alert this week: We must find a home for Dixie, our darling 3-year-old Walker hound. She’s been with us since January, and she needs to go to a home of her own. She is an absolutely beautiful girl, even if she is not particularly fond of cats, and she gets along with many other dogs. The things she loves are people, taking walks and playing with her toys. Sweet and affectionate, she will make a wonderful friend and housemate.

We are up to here with cats and running a little short on litter. We need the clay-based stuff. (Do you know that the person who invented kitty litter invented it by mistake? We could all use more mistakes like that!) Just drop it off in the lobby, and our thanks will go with you. Oh, and if you should spy an extra roll of paper towels around your house or your garage, we can use that too!

Only about 10 days left to get a cat at a bargain price—that would be $25—and only one more Free Friday, the one at the end of this week, along with Saturday, of course. If you’ve been thinking about adding to your household , think no more. Not really, of course, but do stop by and see what beautiful felines are available.

Chuck is one of the greatest dogs we’ve ever had in here, and since all our dogs are great, that’s true praise! He loves everyone he meets, including the cats who roam our lobby, and he would like nothing better than to sit in your lap on your La-Z-Boy lounger. He probably doesn’t even need your lap!

Bessie is a 2-year-old Bluetick Coonhound who is as sweet as a button. She loves to play with other dogs, but she should be the only dog in a home. She also loves her squeaky toy, going on walks and people.

On our wish list: paper towels (as above), paper plates, towels, bleach, dry cat food and canned food for dogs and cats, and clay-based kitty litter. Thank you for thinking of us!

Stop in and see us and all our beautiful beasties at 146 Camden St. in Rockport. We’re open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays, and our website at crarl.org is never closed! And thank you, as always, for your caring and support.
