There is competitive tennis being played this summer at Camden Hills Regional High School, thanks to the work of Windjammer coach Chris Walker-Spencer.

‘B’ singles and doubles play will alternate each week. The draw for the weekly tournaments will be limited to 24 players on a first-come, first-served basis.

The tournament includes a consolation draw, guaranteeing each participant at least two matches.

The weekly tourneys on the courts behind the school are open to men and women 4.0 and under.

The weekly tournaments run through the summer and are designed for beginner to intermediate players.

The tourneys are Tuesday and Wednesday nights beginning at 6 p.m., with players reporting by 5:45 p.m.

There is no entry fee, but donations support ongoing administration and organization.

The cutoff for sign-up each week is Sunday. The draw will be posted on the CHRHS tennis website each Monday. One should use full name to sign up for singles. Use both partners’ last names to sign up for doubles. Each player is responsible for a can of new, unopened tennis balls. The winner keeps the unopened can.

“This league is designed for 4.0 NPTR-rated players or under,” said Walker-Spencer, adding that the Midcoast Recreation Center offers summer grand prix tournaments on Mondays and Thursdays for higher level players. The MTA offers tournaments for juniors and adults on weekends throughout the summer.

Sportsmanship is a must, Walker-Spencer said. For more information, email Walker-Spencer at or Brian Johnson at
