The downtown Summer Solstice Celebration sponsored by Rockland Main Street, Inc. drew hundreds to Main and its side streets June 18, despite the threat of thunder showers that eventually did make an appearance. While the Pooch Parade took place as scheduled right at 5 p.m., the annual Whoopie Pie Contest moved its schedule ahead in order to beat the raindrops.
Musical equipment and food tables were quickly moved out of harm’s way when lighting and thunder arrived, and festivalgoers huddled against buildings or ducked into stores to pass the storm. Those who stuck it out were rewarded with a double rainbow and a return to the dancing, eating, meeting and greeting that make the annual event so popular.
