Did we have a good time at our 4th annual MuttWalk on Saturday? You betcha! Good weather, good friends . . . good dog! A big thank you to all our splendid sponsors: Dave Neilson’s State Farm Insurance, Hannaford, Allen Agency, The Smiling Cow, Smokestack Grill, Belfast Co-op, Destination Dog, Adventure Advertising, Prism Restaurant & Gallery, Yankee Clipper, Camden National Bank, Party Fundamentals, HAVII, Loyal Biscuit Co, Seastreet, Andrew’s Brewing, Camden Hospital for Animals, Doggie Safe N Dry, Jay I. Kislak Foundation and SOS Volunteers. The terrific prizes were donated by Cappy’s Chowder House, Yankee Clipper, Dunkin’ Donuts, Subway, Zoot’s, River House Ice Cream and Jean White.

A special call-out for our compatriots in Belfast, who held their first MuttWalk on Saturday. Every day our relationship gets a little stronger, and we can’t wait until we’re in a full partnership. We want to thank the great people in Belfast who are making this happen. Good work, guys!

We can’t say it often enough: Without the caring and support of friends like these—and like all of you—it would be hard times for us and all our wonderful creatures. Our four-footed darlings can’t speak for themselves, but if you want to know how important you are to their well-being, just stop by and take a look. They are clean, comfortable, well-fed and walked (well, the ones that like to walk are walked). We always hope for a forever home for our whole population, but until that day we, and they, are very, very thankful for all the things you do to make their lives happy ones. And it wouldn’t surprise us in the least if they talked this over among themselves when everyone on two legs has gone home at the end of the day.

Coming up next: the Woofer and Car Wash from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 18, at Key Bank in the Hannaford Plaza. Bring car. Bring dog. Get both washed. (We were hoping for a haiku but it wasn’t to be, unless there are 7-syllable haikus.) This is always a big event for us. Our volunteer washers are tops in the trade, and your pooch and your Porsche, your canine and your Cabriolet, your Buick and your bowser, your pup and your Packard (do they still make Packards?)—well, you get the alliterative picture, and we could go on for a lo-o-o-ng time—will never have been cleaner. All proceeds go to CRARL, so make sure this is on your calendar.

It does seem to us that there are a lot of events for dogs and very few for cats. We don’t think a cat wash would be a very popular item, and besides, cats are hardly ever in need of cleaning, while dogs can always use a little scrubbing behind the ears. If t you can think of a cat event, please let us know. We are equal-opportunity volunteers, and we think herding cats from time to time would be a hoot. And then again, maybe not.

Don’t forget that June is Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month, which means that the adoption fee for all cats older than 5 months is $25. We’ve giving you a sneak peek at some of our fantastic felines. And don’t forget too about Free Cat Fridays. Every Friday we choose five or six cats for free adoptions. The special starts every Friday and runs through close of business on Saturday.

Sneak a peek at these three gorgeous girls: Aimi is as sweet as she is beautiful, and Beauty is as beautiful as she is sweet. As for Lacey, she thinks it is high time someone took her home, and we agree. (By the way, Lacey is also sweet and beautiful, just in case you were wondering.)

On our wish list: paper towels, paper plates, towels, bleach, dry cat food and canned food for dogs and cats. Thank you for thinking of us!

Stop in and see us and all our beautiful beasties at 146 Camden St. in Rockport. We’re open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesdays through Sundays, and our website at crarl.org is never closed! And thank you, as always, for your caring and support.
