Stepping With The Stones Preschool is now enrolling children for the 2011-2012 school year. The family-owned, private Midcoast Maine preschool —entering its 11th year in operation — offers a fun and academically progressive curriculum for children ages 2 1/2 through 6.

At Stepping With The Stones Preschool early childhood education is designed to nurture the child’s self-confidence, interdependence and spirit of celebration while providing the important first steps toward a lifetime of learning. With a focus on cognitive and social skill development Stepping With the Stones Preschool helps children grow during the formative years in ways that will help them excel in the 21st century world community.

The curriculum at Stepping With The Stones Preschool aims to close the gap between the performance of American children and children of other nations in math, science and a host of other subjects. The school embraces a clear vision of American children meeting higher standards of education and community – a standard not evidenced in the latest international measurements on education.

“Stepping With The Stones teaches solid academic skills in math, phonics, language development, writing and varied social experiences in fun and interesting ways. We teach skills of peace and nonviolence, then reinforce the same during the entire preschool year,” said Director Jerry Stone in a news release. Music, art, poetry, dance, theatre, movement and storytelling — activities designed to foster the child’s creativity — are integral parts of the daily schedule. “Our approach is to put the school in preschool.

It’s this ‘leaning advantage’ that sets us apart,” said Stone.

The preschool offers enrollment for ages 2 1/2 through 6 for three, four or five-day sessions to meet the diverse needs of both parents and children. Parents choice of days is always honored. School hours are 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., Mondays through Fridays. An optional After Care program for SWTS preschoolers is available from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Registration is also under way for the preschool’s 13th year of summer camp  with a nine week schedule of themed camps beginning Monday, June 20.

Based at the Stepping With the Stones Preschool at 12 Lions Lane in Camden the camp offers fun activities and daily outings to regional lakes and beaches for children ages 4 through 13. Activities are designed to be age-appropriate with outdoor activities that grow the body, mind and spirit. SWTS day campers and experienced staffers swim each day, visit state parks, play field games, practice archery, beach-comb, sing, dance, participate in theater and crafts projects, enjoy cook outs and more. The cost of the day camp is $185 per week.

The Summer Day Camp runs from Monday, June 20 through Friday, Aug. 19. Enrollment in the SWTS Summer Day Camp is available for a single week, multiple weeks, or all nine weeks.
