MidCoast Christian Academy held its first commencement service Friday, June 10 in Thomaston.

The academy’s first class comprises two students: Zechariah Allen, the son of Daniel and Ann Allen of Thomaston, and Merritt Becknell, the daughter of Branan and Marilynn Becknell of Rockland. Allen has been accepted into the Marines and Becknell has been accepted by Houghton College in New York.

With about 80 people in attendance, the service included a PowerPoint presentation of the graduates along with special music offered by MCCA students and family members. Pastor Mark Adolphson of Appleton was the keynote speaker. The ceremony was followed by a cookout near the parking lot.

MCCA is a community Christian high school that seeks the support of area churches. It was launched in the fall of 2007 with the purpose of providing a Christian education to students in the Midcoast.

At its inception, classes were conducted at Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church in Rockland. However, after completing its first year, the school moved to Thomaston and now resides on the second floor of the Thomaston Academy building.
