Sweetgrass Farm Winery & Distillery and Savage Oakes Vineyard and Winery, both of Union, in conjunction with The Maine Cheese Guild are hosting Maine cheesemakers on Father’s Day. Taste local cheeses paired with this year’s vintage wines and spirits.

The event will be held Sunday, June 19 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Savage Oakes Vineyard and Winery will host State of Maine Cheese from Rockport, which features a wide selection of classic cheeses and some new favorites like Mt. Kineo Caerphilly and Downeast Derby. Sample Savage Oakes Barn Red wine with Penobscot Cheddar or Georges River white with Casco Bay Garlic Cheddar or create a pairing. Savage Oakes will be grilling samples of its own farm-raised pork sausage.

Then travel five miles to Sweetgrass Farm Winery and Distillery, producer of wines, ports, and spirits including the popular Back River Gin. Sweetgrass is hosting Appleton Creamery and Crooked Face Creamery. Appleton Creamery has a delectable selection of chèvre, feta, aged jack, and its famous Camdenbert to sample with Oak Reserve Blueberry Wine or Cranberry Smash. Crooked Face Creamery’s selections include farmstead Gouda as well as fresh and pressed Ricotta with herbs made with milk from their own Jersey cows, paired with a Back River Gin and tonic. As always, winemakers and cheesemakers are on hand to discuss their wines, cheeses, and pairings.

Both locations, weather permitting, will also host an array of vehicles for the first ever Union Wineries Car Show. Antiques, classics, and hot-rods are invited to join the fun with prizes for the people’s choice vehicle.
