Cellardoor Winery and Megunticook Market’s fourth annual Pop the Cork gala, scheduled for Thursday, June 23, will feature a special performance by the quintessential American rock band, Huey Lewis and The News. One hundred percent of the evening’s proceeds will benefit United Mid-Coast Charities, which supports nonprofit organizations providing medical, physical, social, psychiatric and community educational services to the Mid-Coast’s most deserving residents.

The evening’s entertainment, which will take place from 5:30 to 10 p.m. in two tented venues, also will include salsa band Rumba Con Son and a cabaret show by The Screaming Queens. In keeping with the party’s glittering South Beach theme, there will be Cuban-inspired food, caricature artists and lots of fun surprises. An annual celebration of the arts, culture, wine and food, the night’s festivities will be complemented by fabulous food from local artisans and wines from Cellardoor’s own vintner Aaron Peet.

Huey Lewis and The News incorporate a variety of influences in their music including R&B and soul. The worldwide popularity of the group’s contagious, straight-ahead sound has meant sales of more than 20 million albums. Grammy Award winners, they have written and performed such classic Top Ten Hits as “Heart of Rock & Roll,” “Stuck With You,” “If This Is It” and “Hip To Be Square.” The group also wrote and performed “The Power of Love” and “Back in Time” for the hit film “Back To The Future,” a song that was nominated for an Academy Award, and went to number one on Billboard’s singles chart. The band has toured worldwide continuously for more than 30 years. One of the highlights of their live shows is their a cappella rendition of early rock ‘n’ roll classics like “Under The Boardwalk.”
