Dr. Richard Mellon, obstetrician-gynecologist, has joined Pen Bay Women’s Health, a department of Pen Bay Medical Center.

Born in Ohio, Mellon grew up in Bridgewater, N.J. He and his wife and their teenage children, ages 13 and 15, will be settling in the Midcoast area.

Mellon was drawn to Pen Bay because, he said, it “presented an opportunity to practice a high quality of general obstetrics and gynecology in a community that will serve our family’s needs very well.” He said that he and his wife were taken with the beautiful coastal location and the quality of life in the Midcoast area. Mellon will start seeing patients in July.

Mellon received a bachelor’s degree from Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, Pa. He received his medical degree and completed his residency at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, N.J. He has practiced medicine in New Jersey, North Carolina and Virginia. Most recently he was with Abingdon Obstetrics and Gynecology in Abingdon, Va., and chief of Obstetric Service at Johnston Memorial Hospital, also in Abingdon.

“I enjoy the combination of medical and surgical care that practicing in this field allows,” said Mellon in a news release. “I welcome the opportunity to participate in many important phases in my patients’ lives.”

He is a member and fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology. He has a special interest in laparoscopic surgery, and in endocrine and infertility evaluation.

Outside of work, Mellon enjoys gardening, hiking and bike riding.
