The 11th annual Summer Solstice Celebration is set for Saturday, June 18 from 5 to 9 p.m. Hosted by Rockland Main Street, Inc. and itsĀ  promotions committee, the street fair takes place on Main Street, which will be closed to vehicular traffic.

Live music is a key element in the annual festival. This year’s bands-on-the-street include combos Bay Winds North and Breakers Jazz; and rock/pop bands Freeze Frame, Sideways Highways and Juke Rockets.

In addition, there will be another electronica-fueled multimedia event sponsored by Asymmetrick Arts. African and Latin music will be heard as we4ll, thanks to the Djump! African drum and dance troupe; and local Zumba Fitness adherents.

Jonathan Frost Gallery will again host a Juneteenth celebration down Winter Street, combining music, readings and displays to highlight Maine’s African American past and present.

Other family-fun activities will include the traditional Whoopie Pie Contest, a Pooch Parade, Sun Yoga demos, pirate temporary tattoos by Atlantic Challenge/The Apprentice Shop, the city’s ladder truck and the Coast Guard’s rescue boat. As always, there will be a wide range of food vendors and downtown shops and restaurants will take to the sidewalks, as well.
