Whether a seasoned runner or beginner, there will be a weekly cross-country challenge for all ages this summer at Medomak Valley High School.

Participants will gather for weekly runs. The top five weekly finishers in each division will earn points toward a season total. Awards will be presented to the top-five finishers in each group (scoring on 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 points system) based on season results.

The program starts Wednesday, June 15 at 6 p.m. and continues each Wednesday through Aug. 31. The program ends July 27 for high school athletes.

The fee is $15 and includes a program t-shirt. Registration forms are available at the Waldoboro Town Office.

The program will be at the Medomak Valley Nature Trail, with participants meeting by the Medomak Valley High School track. The course has become one of the state’s best as it weaves in and out of the forested area behind Medomak Middle School and MVHS, said longtime Panther coach George Gould.

Walkers also can participate free of charge to experience the beauty of the course and enjoy the camaraderie, Gould said.

Age groups for the program are: Sub Bantam, ages 8 and younger, running 1.24 miles. Bantam, ages 9-10, 1.86 miles. Midget, ages 11-12, 1.86 miles. Youth, ages 13-14, 2.48 miles. Intermediate, ages 15-16, 3.1 miles. Young men and women, ages 17-18, 3.1 miles. Post high school men and women, 19-20, 3.1 miles. Adults ages 21 and older in five-year age groups, 3.1 miles.
