“City Life,” vibrant watercolors of urban landscapes from New York, Florence and Umbria by Julian Sacks, runs through July 2 at Tidemark Gallery, 902 Main St./Route 1. The public is invited to meet Sacks and gallery artists during an opening reception Saturday, June 11 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Born in New York City, Sacks was a medical student at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, and later practiced psychiatry in Boston and Maine. Whether the landscape is dominated by nature and farmhouses or city streets and skyscrapers, he transmits a particularly life-affirming feeling of place with his loose and energetic style.

Tidemark Gallery is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is also the place to pick up and turn in applications for this year’s Paint the Town Waldoboro, set for Aug. 13. Increasingly popular with both artists and collectors, this event has earned a fine reputation among participating plein air painters throughout New England and even in Europe and Canada.

There still are a few openings for artists; registration forms also may be picked up at Supplies Unlimited, Waldoboro, or downloaded at tidemarkgallery.com. For more information, call 832-5109.
