Two Camden residents with minor injuries were transported to Pen Bay Medical Center Friday afternoon, June 3, following a collision with a retaining wall.

The accident occurred outside Hewins Travel at 44 Elm St. in downtown Camden at approximately 1:30 p.m.

According to Camden Police Officer Curt Andrick, driver Raymond Laurita was heading north on Route 1 in a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo with his wife, Bernice, when the car’s gas pedal apparently became stuck.

“To avoid other vehicles he drove into the parking lot of Hewins Travel, and to avoid vehicles parked there, he struck the retaining wall,” said Andrick.

The Lauritas were both wearing seat belts, he said.

The front end of the Aveo was demolished, making the car a total loss, said Andrick.

Camden Fire Department and Camden First Aid responded to the accident.
