Pulitzer Prize-winning author Richard Russo of Camden will give a reading and book signing Saturday, June11 as a fundraiser for the Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served from 5 to 8 p.m., with Russo’s reading at 6:30 p.m., in the grand ballroom of the Colony Hotel, 140 Ocean Ave.

The event offers the opportunity to hear and meet one of America’s most revered authors in one of the extraordinary locations used for the film version of his award-winning novel, “Empire Falls.” After Russo’s reading, he will answer questions from the audience and then sign books provided by the event’s exclusive bookseller, Kennebooks.

A native of New York, Russo is the author of seven novels and one short story collection. Most recently, he was the guest editor of the 2010 edition of the “Best American Short Stories.” Russo was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2002 for his sweeping, blue-collar, mill town epic “Empire Falls,” which he subsequently adapted the novel into a screenplay. The film was produced in Maine, released in 2005 and featured Paul Newman in his last role before his death, as well as award-winning actors Ed Harris, Helen Hunt, Robin Wright-Penn, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Additional locations included Skowhegan, Waterville and the Lincolnville ferry terminal.

Tickets for the evening event are $60 in advance or $75 at the door. Advance tickets are available at Graves Library, 18 Maine St., Kennebunkport; Kennebooks, Route 35, Kennebunk; and the Colony Hotel. For more information, contact Mary Lou Boucouvalas at Graves Library at 967-2778.
