The high school baseball and softball regular seasons officially have come to an end, meaning the postseason is now but a few days away.

That fact is a welcome one to many diamond squads in Knox, Waldo and Lincoln counties, with many teams earning their way into the regional playoffs for a chance at Maine’s richest prize — a coveted state championship.

Six Midcoast teams — four softball and two baseball — earned spots in the postseason, which will begin next week.

For softball, Medomak Valley, Camden Hills, Belfast and Georges Valley all qualified for the playoffs, while for baseball, Camden Hills and Rockland earned postseason spots.

The final Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for baseball and softball, which determine playoff seedings and pairings, were released June 3.

Softball

In Eastern Class B, Medomak Valley (15-1, 149.6486 points) finished first, Camden Hills (12-4, 114.1016 points) fifth, Belfast (9-7, 66.2500 points) ninth, Rockland (4-12, 12.9297 points) 17th and Mount View of Thorndike (2-14, 7.4609 points) 18th in the 19-team region. The top 10 teams qualify for postseason play.

The No. 1 Panthers will host a quarterfinal game on Thursday, June 9 and will face the winner of No. 9 Belfast and No. 8 Caribou (9-7, 72.2656 points). The Panthers faced the Lions twice this season, winning 8-5 April 25 and 2-1 on May 31. The Panthers and Vikings do not play each other during the regular season.

The No. 9 Lions’ preliminary playoff game at No. 8 Caribou is slated for Tuesday, June 7 at 2 p.m. The Lions and Vikings do not play each other during the regular season.

The No. 5 Windjammers will travel for their quarterfinal game and will face No. 4 Old Town (11-5, 115.0391 points) at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 8. The Windjammers and Coyotes do not play each other during the regular season.

In Western Class C, Georges Valley (14-0, 129.3707 points) finished second in the 18-team region. The Buccaneers will host No. 7 St. Dominic Academy of Lewiston (9-6, 56.4524 points) on Thursday, June 9, at 2 p.m., in a quarterfinal game. The Bucs defeated the Saints twice this season — 5-1 at Lewiston May 11 and 9-2 at Thomaston May 25. Telstar of Bethel (14-1, 135.1627 points) finished first.

In Eastern Class C, Searsport (0-16, no points) finished 16th (last) in the 20-team region. The top 10 teams qualify for the postseason. Dexter (14-2, 102.6172 points) finished first.

In Western Class D, Vinalhaven (2-10, 3.2051 points) finished seventh (last) in the region. The Vikings did not qualify for the postseason. Richmond (15-0, 100.7552 points) finished first in the region.

Baseball

In Eastern Class B, Camden Hills, (12-4, 103.1641 points) finished sixth, Rockland (10-6, 101.7969 points) eighth, Medomak Valley (9-7, 77.1875 points) 12th, Belfast (4-12, 15.6641 points) 16th and Mount View (2-14, 14.2969 points) 17th. The top 10 teams qualify for postseason play. Waterville (14-2, 133.8672 points) finished first in the 19-team region.

The No. 6 Windjammers will travel to face No. 3 Bucksport (10-6, 113.0859 points) at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 9, in the quarterfinals. The ‘Jammers and Golden Bucks do not play each other during the regular season.

The No. 8 Tigers will host one final playoff game — a preliminary round contest — against No. 9 Old Town (11-5, 90.8203 points). The game will be Tuesday, June 7 at 1 p.m. on Morrill Field. The Tigers and Coyotes do not play each other during the regular season.

Should the Tigers win, they will advance and travel to face No. 1 Waterville on Thursday, June 9, time to be determined, in a quarterfinal game. Rockland defeated Waterville 5-4 in the teams’ lone regular-season contest May 13.

In Western Class C, Georges Valley (6-8, 40.3316 points) finished 12th in the 18-team region and did not qualify for postseason play. The top 10 teams qualify for the postseason. St. Dominic (14-2, 124.3899 points) finished first.

In Eastern Class C, Searsport (3-13, 25.9766 points) finished 16th in the 20-team region. The top 10 teams qualify for the postseason. Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft (16-0, 115.6473 points) finished first.

In Western Class D, Vinalhaven (4-8, 22.9701 points) finished sixth in the seven-team region and did not qualify for postseason play. The top four teams qualify for the playoffs. Greenville (12-2, 86.0152 points) finished first.
