Rockland is again in the market for a new school board member.

Steven Dyer served his final meeting June 2 on the Regional School Unit 13 Board. Dyer is moving outside Rockland to be closer to his job as an instructor at Thomas College in Waterville.

He was appointed to the board in April 2009 by the Rockland City Council. He was then elected without opposition in November 2009 to a three-year seat. His term would have run through November 2012.

His resignation means the city council will get to appoint another school board member to represent Rockland. Rockland has five members on the 13-member board.

In December 2010, the board appointed William Pearce and Sharon Spaulding to the board to fill vacancies.

People appointed by the council serve until the next general election, which is November 2011.

RSU 13 Board Chairwoman Jamie Doubleday thanked Dyer for his service.

“I don’t always agree with you but you’ve always kept us honest,” Doubleday told Dyer at his final meeting, adding that he also always had the interest of the students in mind.
