Lynn Archer said she was not considering opening another restaurant when the opportunity arose to run one on the waterfront.

Archer’s On The Pier opened last month at the former Boathouse Restaurant location on the waterfront off Ocean Street.

Archer has run the Brass Compass on Main Street for nine years. The Brass Compass was the first restaurant she owned but the businesswoman had been a cook and head chef for 37 years at different restaurants. She also was a food safety trainer at Coastal Community Action Program for 10 years, going to various daycare operations.

Archer said when both the Black Bull and Boathouse closed she realized more than 30 people had lost their jobs.

“While I was happy and comfortable with the Brass Compass, I feel we have a responsibility to our community,” Archer said.

Archer’s serves seafood as well as steaks and burgers. She noted the restaurant is a purveyor of local seafood and Maine-grown products.

In addition, she said the view from Archer’s is fantastic with Rockland Harbor, the Camden Hills, and the Breakwater Lighthouse visible from the restaurant.

“It’s the gem of Rockland,” Archer said.

Archer’s is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. The bar will remain open until 11 p.m.
