Albeit a shortened season due to Mother Nature’s wrath throughout most of the month of May, the Busline League middle school baseball and softball regular seasons officially wrapped up over the weekend, paving the way for the upcoming single-elimination playoffs.

All teams were slated to play 10 games, but due to many postponements and for fear of extending the playoffs past the last day of school for many schools, the regular season was shortened and completed Saturday, May 28.

The preliminary round of the playoffs will begin Wednesday, June 1, with the first round for most other teams beginning Thursday, June 2. Semifinal contests are slated to be played Tuesday, June 7, regional finals Thursday, June 9 and the overall league championships on Tuesday, June 14.

The final standings for North Division baseball are: 1, Rockland, 6-0; 2, Thomaston, 4-1-1; 3, Camden-Rockport 8th, 3-1-2; 4, Medomak 8th, 3-2-1; 5, Troy Howard of Belfast, 2-4; 6, Lincolnville, 1-6; and 7, Searsport, 0-6.

The final standings for South Division baseball are: 1, Jefferson, 6-0; 2, Wiscasset, 6-2; 3, Nobleboro, 5-2; 4, Bristol, 4-3; 5, Medomak 7th, 4-4; 6, Camden-Rockport 7th, 4-4; 7, Boothbay, 2-5; 8, Great Salt Bay of Damariscotta, 2-6; and 9, Richmond, 0-6.

The final standings for North Division softball are: 1, Thomaston, 7-0; 2, Rockland, 6-1; 3, Medomak, 5-2; 4, Camden-Rockport 8th, 3-3; 5, Troy Howard, 3-4; 6, Searsport, 2-5; 7, Hope/Appleton, 1-6; and 8, Lincolnville, 0-6.

The final standings for South Division softball are: 1, Jefferson, 6-0; 2, Richmond, 6-1; 3, Great Salt Bay, 6-2; 4, Bristol, 4-3; 5, Nobleboro, 3-4; 6, Camden-Rockport 7th, 3-5; 7, Medomak 7th, 3-5; 8, Boothbay, 2-5; and 9, Wiscasset, 0-8.

Preliminary playoff action begins Wednesday, June 1 in the baseball and softball’s South Divisions, with No. 8 Great Salt Bay hosting No. 9 Richmond in baseball, while No. 8 Boothbay will host No. 9 Wiscasset in softball. All other teams begin the playoffs Thursday, June 2.

On Thursday, June 2 in baseball’s South Division, the winner of the prelim game between the Bobcats and Cougars will travel to Jefferson to face the top-seeded Chargers, while other first-round matchups include No. 7 Boothbay at No. 2 Wiscasset, No. 6 Camden-Rockport 7th at No. 3 Nobleboro and No. 5 Medomak 7th at No. 4 Bristol.

Also on Thursday in baseball’s North Division, No. 1 Rockland receives a bye into the next round of the playoffs, while first-round matchups for the division include No. 7 Searsport at No. 2 Thomaston, No. 6 Lincolnville at No. 3 Camden-Rockport 8th and No. 5 Troy Howard at No. 4 Medomak 8th.

In softball’s South Division, the winner of the prelim game between the Warriors and the Wildcats will travel to Jefferson to face the top-seeded Chargers, while other first-round matchups include No. 7 Medomak 7th at No. 2 Richmond, No. 6 Camden-Rockport 7th at No. 3 Great Salt Bay and No. 5 Nobleboro at No. 4 Bristol.

In softball’s North Division, first-round matchups include No. 8 Lincolnville at No. 1 Thomaston, No. 7 Hope/Appleton at No. 2 Rockland, No. 6 Searsport at No. 3 Medomak 8th and No. 5 Troy Howard at No. 4 Camden-Rockport 8th.

Due to a prior commitment for Rockland District Middle School June 7, any semifinal games the Eagles may participate in will be held on Monday, June 6. The RDMS baseball team already has a bye into the semifinals, meaning the winner of No. 5 Troy Howard and No. 4 Medomak 8th will face RDMS at on Monday, June 6 at 3:30 p.m. Should the RDMS softball team win its quarterfinal game, it will host the winner of No. 6 Searsport and No. 3 Medomak 8th on Monday, June 6 at 3:30 p.m.
