The beat of drums could be heard on Jefferson Street a quarter-mile from the Waldoboro Town Office. It got louder and louder, until a little kid yelled “It’s coming! It’s coming!”
It was Memorial Day in Waldoboro, and the parade marched toward Pine Street with its flags and veterans, the wreath and the ambulances, the ’29 Ford, the town’s firefighters and emergency medical personnel, the young ballplayers, and the Scouts and Brownies.
On Pine Street, the speeches, prayer, National Anthem and melody of patriotic tunes carried across the Medomak River throughout the town, honoring the veterans.
