School news

Last AVS Community Meeting of the year and Community Sing! Please join us for our final community meeting of the school year. Friday, May 27 at 2:15 p.m. It the spirit of community, our AVS tribe will join together to sing and celebrate our accomplishments. The more the merrier!

If you take a look out onto the AVS playground this week, you will see a lot of new activities taking place. We have purchased some amazing playground equipment for students to enjoy. We have bought everything from hula hoops to soccer goals, from badminton to jump ropes.  Each class submitted a wish list of items needed. Mrs. King was able to go purchase the items locally thanks to the funds raised. We received a $100 donation from the AVS PTO group and students raised the other $500 as part of the Yankee Candle Fundraiser. Thank you to the PTO for your donation, to Mrs. Christie for all of her time and effort on the fundraiser, and lastly thank you to all the students who sold candles to raise the money. Have fun, include others, and play safe with the new equipment! Thank you to Mrs. King for being such an excellent shopper.  She traveled to Rockland, filled her car to capacity, brought everything back to AVS, and distributed items to various classrooms. Her time and help is very much appreciated. You may even see her outside on the basketball court shooting hoops with some of her students!

Middle School Sports Recognition Night

We wish to invite all Busline League athletes and their parents to our Sports Recognition Night on Wednesday, June 1 at 6 p.m. at AVS. Students who participated in Busline League XC, Soccer, Basketball, Softball, and Baseball will receive certificates from their coaches. We will also have an ice cream buffet. Please mark your calendars to help us recognize the time, energy, and good sportsmanship displayed by our athletes.

Seventh-grade fundraiser

Seventh-graders are still hopeful that we will complete the reading and be supported by sponsors so that we can purchase the gift of animals for families in need. READ TO FEED is an incentive with Heifer International. If you think you could sponsor us, please do not hesitate to give us a call at 785-4504! We hope to finish this effort by May 30 so that we still have time to research and choose our animal gifts.
