Betty L. Spencer, 79, passed away in Belfast Sunday, May 22, 2011. She was born in Rockland Dec. 8, 1931, the daughter of Henry and Ellen Rolfe.
She worked at local poultry plants, 24 years at Maplewood and eight years at Penobscot. She went back to school at Beal College and then worked at Brown & Crowe law offices for 26 years.
She was a member of VFW Auxiliary #3108 and #6131, and was past state president of VFW Auxiliary. Betty enjoyed knitting and crocheting in her spare time, and wouldn’t ever miss her weekly “breakfast club” at Family Traditions Restaurant with close friends, Merlyn Cunningham, Rena Woodrow, Flo Small, and Doreen and Don Ramsey.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Boyle of Belfast; three grandchildren, David Boyle II and his fiancee Lisa Lauterbach of Belmont, Jason Boyle of Waldo, and Carl Boyle and Julie Shute of Prospect; four great-grandchildren, David, Brianna, Ian and Caitlin; and several nieces and nephews.
Private burial will be held at Grove Cemetery in Belfast. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, Belfast. Online condolences may be offered to the family at ripostafh.com.
