The Union Recreation Committee offers summer tennis lessons with Glen Rainsley. Lessons are available to those from fifth grade through adult.

Sessions will begin in June for adults and July for children in fifth through 12th grades.

Lessons will be held at the Thompson Community Center courts in Union. The cost of each six-lesson class is $35, plus one can of new tennis balls. Non-residents may attend on an as-available basis for $45.

The sessions include:

Children entering fifth and sixth grades — “Beginning Tennis” — Basic instruction on strokes, drills, mechanics. Dates and time: July 12, 13, 14, 18, 19 and 20 at 9 a.m. (rain dates: July 15 and 21). Parents welcome to watch.

Children entering seventh and eighth grades — “Beginning Tennis” — Basic instruction on strokes, cooperative and competitive drills, mechanics, game play and practice. Dates and time: July 12, 13, 14, 18, 19 and 20 at 10:15 a.m. (rain dates: July 15 and 21). Parents welcome to watch.

Children entering ninth through 12th grades — “Continuing Instruction” — For those who have at least tried playing tennis. Instruction on strokes, cooperative and competitive drills, mechanics, mental focus, game play and practice. Dates and time: July 12, 13, 14, 18th, 19 and 20 at 11:30 a.m. (rain dates: July 15 and 21).

Adults — “Want to Try a New Sport or Pick Up One You Left Behind?” — Designed for beginners or those who have not played for a while. Emphasis on good bio-mechanics, simple stroke production, enjoyment of the game. Bring a notebook. Dates and time: June 6, 7, 8, 13, 14 and 15 at 9 a.m. (rain dates: June 9 and 16).

Adults — “Six Sessions to Improve Your Basic Strokes” — Designed for people who have some tennis experience, but want specific advice on how to improve each basic stroke: forehand, backhand, serve, volley, lob and specialty shots (especially drop and slice). Bring a notebook. Dates and time: June 6, 7, 8, 13, 14 and 15 at 10:15 a.m. (rain dates: June 9 and 16).
