Gerald William Creamer, 96, died May 10, 2011, at Dionne Commons in Brunswick. He was born in Cushing on Oct. 21, 1914, the son of Evilo (Stone) and Orrin Creamer. He moved to Thomaston when he was 10 years old and graduated from Thomaston High School, class of 1932. Gerald married his high school sweetheart, Helen Vinal on July 8, 1935. Their son, Thomas James Creamer, was born a year later on July 4, 1936.

Gerald and his family moved to Woolwich in 1942 during the war. Gerald had a varied career, working for a time at Bath Iron Works and as a carpenter and in his later years as a caretaker.

He was a longtime member and past chief of the South Woolwich Volunteer Fire Department, a Forest Fire Commissioner, and a lifetime member of the Woolwich Fire Department.

Gerald loved to hunt and fish. He spent many a spring day on a Maine stream fishing with his son and friends. He took up walking after his beloved wife, Helen, passed away in 2003. He walked two miles every day and enjoyed the company of many neighbors and friends.

He is survived by his son, Thomas J. Creamer and his wife, Judith A. Creamer, of Shirley, Mass., and Woolwich; his grandson, Dave W. Creamer and his wife, Sharon E. Creamer, of Stratham, N.H.; his granddaughter, Pamela S. Creamer of Woolwich; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Sydney Creamer of Stratham, N.H.

At the family’s request there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held June 5 at 2:30 p.m. at Murphy’s Corner Cemetery in Woolwich.
