Police officers from departments all over the Midcoast will be serving meals at Applebee’s on Tuesday, May 24 to raise funds for Special Olympics Maine.

Local organizer and traffic officer Troy Peasley said every Applebee’s in Maine is participating in the effort to raise funds for the cause. He said local police have “joined forces” with the restaurant in the effort.

From 5:30 to 8 p.m. May 24, police officers from local departments will assist wait staff at the Thomaston restaurant. Peasley noted that the wait staff will still receive their tips. The officers will distribute envelopes for the tables that people can use to make donations to the Special Olympics.

Members of the Rockland Police Department, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, Camden Police Department, Rockport Police Department, Thomaston Police Department, Maine Marine Patrol and Waldoboro Police Department will participate in the event.
