A 57-year-old Waldoboro woman died in the head-on car crash in Washington Saturday morning, May 14.

Faustina Mitchell, 57, of Waldoboro was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that occurred on Route 17 near Route 206, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

Mitchell was driving a 2002 Ford Focus and attempted to pass another vehicle. She was heading east on Route 17 and pulled into the path of a 2010 Toyota Tundra truck driven by John Fallows, 62, of Hope that was headed west, the news release from the department stated. The two vehicles collided head on.

The crash occurred at about 9 a.m.

Fallows was taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport and later released.

The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the cause of the crash, according to Knox County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Tim Carroll.

Both drivers were the sole occupants in their vehicles.

Maine State Police are reconstructing the crash to help determine the cause.
