As warm weather slowly creeps into the Midcoast, the Mike Sabins Memorial Youth Fish and Game Association plans to hold its next fishing event.

The association will hold another “Hooked on Fishing” event, sponsored by Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, on Saturday, June 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Seven Tree Pond at Ayer Park, Route 235.

This annual event is for the Mike Sabins Memorial Youth Fish and Game organization. In response to the death of their son, Mike, several years ago, Scot and Mary Sabins of Union have organized a group focused on teaching Maine children about their outdoor heritage.

Mike was an avid hunter and fisherman. The couple offers fishing events each year in the winter and late spring. This is the sixth year the spring event has been held. The Sabins hope to offer additional events, activities and courses for young people to experience the Maine outdoors.

This event annually draws more than 100 children, parents and volunteers. Many catch their first fish at the event.

No fishing license is required and instruction, equipment, and refreshments will be provided. Also, there is no fee to attend.
