Tryouts for the Amato’s American Legion baseball team will be Saturday, May 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Morrill Field on Thomaston Street.

Tryouts are for players ages 16-19. A player must be age 16 as of Jan 1, 2011 and no longer eligible for Babe Ruth. Any player born in 1991 is no longer eligible to play legion ball.

For the upcoming tryout, players should report to Morrill Field at least 20 minutes early to fill out an information sheet, to stretch and be ready to play at 4 p.m.

There also has been a change in which local athletes can participate on the Amato’s team. Players who attend the following schools are eligible: Rockland, Camden Hills and Georges Valley.

Additionally, players from Belfast and Searsport also have the option to try out for the Amato’s squad, South China Subway, or Hampden. Amato’s and South China compete in Zone 2 and Hampden in Zone 1.

However, in a significant change, Medomak Valley players are no longer eligible to play for Amato’s and must try out for the Lincoln County American Legion team.

Amato’s coach Casey Morrill said this is a new Amato’s team, so, even if a player competed on the team last year he must attend this year’s tryout and make the squad again to play this summer.
