The Knox County Commissioners approved a series of contracts May 10 for jobs that had previously been done by county employees.

The county commissioners approved at the end of 2010 the elimination of the entire custodial staff including the building maintenance director. The county also eliminated the information technology director position.

The elimination of the staff positions last year came at the recommendation of the consulting firm Municipal Resources Inc.

At their May 10 meeting, the commissioners voted to award contracts for those duties.

Maine Real Estate Management LLC was awarded the building maintenance/management services contract for $52,000 annually.

Maine Real Estate Management LLC got the bid for $52,000 annually for janitorial/cleaning services for the Knox County Courthouse. Lou’s Commercial Cleaning got the contract to do janitorial/cleaning services at the Knox County Regional Airport for $15,600 and the Knox County Regional Communications Center for $3,900.

Know Technology of Camden was awarded the information technology service contract for $32,800 with additional costs at $125 per hour for re-designing the network infrastructure and ongoing support solutions.

In 2010, the county spent about $153,000 for salaries and benefits for building maintenance and custodial/janitorial employees.
