The Medomak Valley jayvee softball squad burst from the gate with three wins. Recently, the Panthers beat Waterville 18-4, Belfast 20-3 and Lincoln Academy of Newcastle 12-5.

April 27, Medomak Valley bested host Waterville 18-4. Medomak Valley scored five runs in each of the first and third innings, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and five in the sixth.

Danni Hunt led Medomak Valley with three hits, while Charlene Wilbur, Kara Pranes, Lauren Guptill and Rebecca Beal each had one. Also for the guests, Wilbur and Kristi Severson scored three runs each, while Greta Brown, Abby Maguire, Taylor Mason, Harley Campbell and Sammi Griffin each scored at least one run.

Pitcher Severson allowed three runs on five hits and three walks, with eight strikeouts. She worked five innings.

For Waterville K. Spaulding pitched five innings allowing 10 walks and four strikeouts.

April 25, Medomak Valley secured a 20-3 win over Belfast at Waldoboro.

The Panthers tallied five runs in the bottom of the first inning and 15 in the second.

Severson pitched for Medomak and allowed two runs, one walk and nine strikeouts in the four and a half inning game.

Leading the Panthers offense were, Griffin (2 runs), Hunt (2 runs), Severson (3 runs), Pranes (hit, 3 runs), Maguire (hit, 3 runs), Guptill (2 runs) and Bridget Miller (2 runs) .

For Belfast, G. Davis pitched and had a hit and run. Also, H. Bailey and A. Littlefield both scored and Littlefield tallied two hits.

April 22, the Panthers opened the season with a 12-5 win over visiting Lincoln Academy. Severson earned the complete-game victory with a six-hit, thee-walk, 11-strikeout performance. None of the Eagles’ runs were earned.

Severson also helped herself at the plate with a three hits and scored three runs. Also contributing offensively for the winners were Wilbur, Maguire, Pranes, Beal, Griffin and Guptill with a hit each.

Medomak Valley coach Pat Delahanty said Miller also made strong plays at third base.

Tara Gauntt pitched for the Eagles, finishing with nine strikeouts and six walks.
