Margaret A. Stanley-Small died May 3, 2011, at her home.

Margaret was born in Rockland on Oct. 20, 1946, the daughter of Kent and Pauline Tatham Stanley. She attended Rockport Elementary School and graduated from Glen Cove Christian Academy in 1963. She continued her education, earning a bachelor of music degree from Houghton College, Houghton, N.Y., and later a master of music degree from the University of Maine at Orono.

Margaret has supplied many churches as organist and choir director, from South Carolina to Maine.

She was also involved in choral societies and other music organizations wherever she lived. For many years she was the soprano soloist for the local Messiah sing-along.

Returning to Maine in 1987, she began teaching music in the public school system as well as offering private music lessons. For 18 years, she served as organist and choir director at Rockland Congregational Church, and more recently at Nativity Lutheran Church in Rockport.

For more than 20 years, she was a member of Lakeview Presbyterian Church in Rockport, where she also played piano, and met her husband, Skip.

Margaret was looking forward to the birth of her seventh grandchild, Zoe Small, who is due May 5.
