Georges Valley and Medomak Valley started their tennis seasons Monday with different results.

In boys matches, the Buccaneers powered past visiting Wiscasset 5-0, while Medomak Valley lost to visiting Lincoln Academy of Newcastle by the same score.

In girls matches, Medomak Valley lost to host Lincoln Academy 5-0, while the match between Georges Valley and host Wiscasset was cut short due to rain.

Boys

Georges Valley 5, Wiscasset 0 … At the Samoset Resort in Rockport, the Bucs came out strong and bested Wiscasset. Several complications occurred with the match. For one, the first singles match was cut to one set due to rain. Also, Wiscasset could not field a second doubles team and had to forfeit.

The individual results, with Bucs listed first, were: In singles, Gordon Armstrong beat Jordan Jones, 7-5; Charlie Baker beat Tyler S., 6-3, 6-1; and Cy McGeady beat Caleb Bryant, 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles, Tyler Gilson and Luke Rector beat Matt Johnson and Andrew Wattons, 6-0, 6-0; and the Bucs won the second doubles by forfeit.

Coach Kathryn Armstrong said she was proud of her team. “Both Cy McGeady and Charlie Baker played very agressive games and controlled the court well,” she said. “We are very excited to win the first match of the season.”

Also, notably, Gordon Armstrong, the coach’s brother, came back from a 5-3 deficit to win his match.

Lincoln Academy 5, Medomak Valley 0 … At Waldoboro, the Panthers took a heavy opening hit from one of the most talented teams in the state, according to Medomak Valley coach Eric Lee.

The individual results, with Panthers listed first, were: In singles, Nick Young lost to Jordan Friedland, 0-6, 0-6; Zack Judkins lost to Brandon Blake, 5-7, 4-6; and Cal Robbins lost to Jeff Cheney, 1-6, 4-6.

In doubles, Conor Dahlberg and Zack Wallace lost to Chauncy Devin and Zach Hagar, 3-6, 0-6; and Max Hinkley and Cooper Dahlberg lost Daniel Mayer and Michael McCormic, 3-10 in a pro set.

Girls

Lincoln Academy 5, Medomak Valley 0 … At Newcastle, the Panthers could not keep pace with the talented Eagles.

The individual results, with Panthers listed first, were: In singles, Kelly Leidenroth lost to Aimee Keushguerian, 1-6, 0-6; Haley Turner lost to Carly Erskine 1-6, 0-6; and Mallory Robbins lost to Ahlee Hartford, 1-6, 1-6..

In doubles, Kaye Peabody and Isabelle Lobley lost to Kara Mullin and Kelsey Leeman, 2-6, 1-6; and Bailey Black and Ariele Rancourt lost to Jackie Hassenpfing and Lilly Davis, 4-6, 6-7.

Georges Valley vs. Wiscasset … At Wiscasset, the Bucs led the hosts, but to no avail as rain put a damper on the court action.

The singles matches were canceled due to rain and the teams will try to meet in a rematch on Thursday, April 28 in Wiscasset.

The doubles pro set results, with Buccs listed first, were: Brianna Bodman and Michaela Garrett beat Emma Covier and Kathlyn Conner, 10-4; and Erika Tardiff and Amelia Reinhardt beat Aleka Burns and Nicole Ezzo, 10-5.
