“We stay educated on the latest styles and fashions,” said Manager Shana Taylor of the new Supercuts hair salon on Route 1 in Thomaston.

The salon opened April 18 at 210 New County Road next to Dunkin’ Donuts. The salon is owned by Mark Muscatello of New Hampshire and is one of several Supercuts salons in Maine.

The salon employs five stylists, who provide haircuts, color and facial waxing. All employees are required to be licensed in cosmetology, and must take an additional week-long course with Supercuts. They are also certified in a color class and must recertify every year, Taylor said.

She said the latest trends include longer, bigger waves for women and blonding of the tips for men. She said pinks and blues are popular colors with young women currently. The fauxhawk is also in among men. Taylor said the salon caters to everyone and has been doing military clipper cuts for men.

The manager said the salon welcomes walk-in customers. It is open from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
