Police are investigating damage done during the overnight hours of April 24 to the fairway at the Megunticook Golf Club on Calderwood Lane.

A vehicle was driven onto the third fairway, causing extensive damage. There was also some damage to the third green and to the second fairway, according to Rockport Police Chief Mark Kelley.

The club has not yet opened for the season, which is usually around May 1, said club superintendent Brent Boynton. He said the course will still open as planned, and golfers may have to play around the damage until it’s fixed.

It is unknown at this time who is responsible for the damage, but police are looking into any and all leads, Kelley said.

The chief asks that anyone with information about the vandalism, or if anyone sees an extremely muddy vehicle, to contact Rockport police at 236-2026.
