The New Year is a perfect time to try yoga for the first time or recommit to an ongoing practice. The benefits of yoga are numerous, including stress relief, physical strength, peace of mind, balance and flexibility. Originating in the Indus Valley circa 3,000 BC, the ancient practice of yoga has carried forward with vigor into modern day life in the Western world.

Nixon’s 12-week winter session will begin Jan. 10 and run through April 2 at the Lincoln Street Center in Rockland. Winter session classes are by donation, and students may sign up for the entire session or drop in.

Nixon has practiced yoga since 2001, and she received her teaching certificate from the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in 2006. For more information and to register for classes, call Nixon at 594-1694 or e-mail rachelanixon@gmail.com.
