Five Town Community School District Adult Education is offering a class for individuals interested in obtaining a captain’s license.

The program is taught by a U.S. Coast Guard certified instructor from the American Boat School, LLC, of Marlborough, Conn. Captain’s License Info Night, being held on Thursday, Jan. 6, from 6 to 7 p.m., is a one-hour informational session for anyone interested in the full captain’s course but who needs more information. This class is free but individuals must call and reserve a space.

On Jan. 13, the master’s level class will begin. This class runs for 20 weeks and after graduating from the master’s class, students are qualified to operate vessels carrying seven or more passengers. The captain’s license OUPV/six-pack level class begins March 10, runs 14 weeks, and will qualify graduating students to operate vessels carrying up to six passengers.

Both these classes are held on Thursdays nights from 6 to 10 p.m.

Fees for the classes include all texts, charts, plotters, and the USCG test. Payment arrangements, including weekly payments, can be made with the American Boat School instructor. Both OUPV and master’s classes are held at Camden Hills Regional High School in Rockport. All testing is done in class and there is no need to travel outside the area.
