Recently 64 members of the Camden Hills Regional High School Latin Club traveled to Winthrop High School to attend the annual Fall Maine Junior Classical League convention.

Competing against 12 other Maine schools, Camden Hills won the first place trophy in academic testing. Tests were administered in Latin grammar, vocabulary, derivatives, reading comprehension, as well as mythology and Roman history.

Ribbons were awarded to students for each of the top five scores on each of the six tests. Earning ribbons for Camden Hills were Sean Beacham (4), Alex Blohm (5), Lindsay Bumbalo (4), Matt Clark (3), Cole Ellison (4), Tyler Coleman, Emma Conover, Will Conover (6), Autumn Coyle (2), Dury Decker-Griffith (3), Annie Fagan (2), Chloe Geffken (5), Max Geffken (2), Deldar Gocherher, Rebecca Gray (3), Kiera Haining (2), Duncan Hall (4), Kayla Hart (2), Matt Heath, Sam Hilt, Ann Hoffman (2), Noah Holt (2), Claire Horne (4), Paige Kuplinski, Crockett Lalor (3), Henry Laurita, Kyle Laurita-Bonometti (5), Zoie Magri, Alex Marsh (5), Eddie McCluskey, Francie Merill (5), Anna Mynick (2) James OĆ­Connor (2), Alden Parker (6), Sophie Salas (2), Andy Schlebecker (4), Sarah Scott (2), Hannah Sosland (2), Dakota Summers (4), Lindsay Taylor, Caitlin Throne, Abby Ulmer (3), and Peter Walker.

Alex Blohm, Will Conover, Alex Marsh , Kyle Laurita-Bonometti, and Alden Parker each won individual prizes for being among the top 10 scorers from the approximately 400 students at the convention. Alden Parker also had the honor of being the highest scoring student at the convention.

In the Certamen competition, Camden Hills Latin I team, composed of Duncan Hall, Matt Clark, Cole Ellison, and Crockett Lalor came in seventh; in Latin II Certamen, Alden Parker, Eddie McCluskey, Will Conover, Sarah Scott, and Francie Merrill brought home the first place trophy. In the Advanced Latin level, Camden Hills came in second place. Team members were Annie Fagan, Alex Marsh, Hannah Sosland, Sophie Salas and Kyle Laurita-Bonometti.

Camden Hills came in seventh in the spirit contest. The next MJCL convention will be the Certamen Festival at Leavitt High School in March.
