John Street United Methodist Church hosts Blue Christmas service

CAMDEN — A service of Blue Christmas will be held at the John Street United Methodist Church, 98 John St. in Camden at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12 to provide healing for our neighbors experiencing sadness this time of year. Society fills the Christmas season with revelry, bright lights and cheery tunes. For those who are dealing with depression, diagnoses of serious illnesses, the end of a marriage, the death of a loved one or other such loss, it is difficult to join the celebrations.

The entire community is invited to the quiet Blue Christmas service which will include scripture and meditations with solemn and inspirational music. There will be a contemplative time to remember losses, during which the congregation may come forward to light one or several of the large array of blue candles to represent losses or concerns, in silence or speaking quietly as each candle is lit.
