Camden Hills Regional High School students have made a push in the drive to fund the final costs of the planned wind turbine project at the high school.

Student members of the Windplanners gathered at the school to author letters asking potential donors to make tax-deductible contributions needed to fund the final $80,000 necessary to begin construction. The wind turbine is a 6-year-old project conceived by and carried forward by students and is expected upon completion to generate up to 25 percent of the electrical needs of the high school complex.

The town of Rockport recently approved an ordinance which will permit the construction of the windmill and ground breaking for the project could begin as early as January if the balance of the costs are raised.

An anonymous donor has generously offered to match all tax-deductible contributions up to a maximum of $200,000. The Windplanners have asked all donations be made out to “Friends of the CSD” and can be mailed to Friends of the CSD, PO Box 961, Camden, ME 04843.
